US Soccer - A Graveyard for Dying Galaxies?

David Beckham is heading to the United States in June after signing some 200+ million dollar contract with the LA Galaxy.

US Soccer is looking for a face lift by having Beckham over, but this is a Beckham at the very end of his career, one that has very obviously been sagging the past few years! A marketeer's delight and a celebrity for reasons other than soccer, David Becham still has an unimaginably large (female) fan following, and all of these may well see him through his current contract.

Welcome to America, Beckham!

just to add to the disappointment that is beckham's arrival in LA, here are two other facts:
1. there are rumors that he and victoria "posh spice" beckham may join tom cruise and co in that wonderful little religion we know as scientology.
2. as part of his contract, at the end of his contract, beckham has the option of owning an mls team.
it's fairly clear that he's not here to play soccer but to earn money in his retirement

I think he is here to start a career in Hollywood also.

You are right about that. I don't watch much soccer except around world cup time and that too cos *A* watches and she is an avid sports fan.

I love to watch soccer. I wish it could be a success in the US, but it is a sport that has never seemed to take off in the US and I will be surprised if it does now.

Quite a sudden demotion for Beckham. England captain to playing in the States. He is a good example of...money corrupts and absolute money corrupts absolutely (to adapt a phrase). And the States gets Posh Spice too! A double whammy! Usually, the UK gets the USA's cast-offs, so this is quite a reversal.

hey what sells tickets is what they want...but beckam has been making his move to the US since a few years back. not much of the non-soccer loving people knew who he was until he started hanging out at the mtv video awards and starting to get his paparazzi profile in the US known. i think this has been planned out for years.....with more people getting to know he was it made him more popular here with the likelihood of getting sponsorship and being a US player/money maker....i really don't believe this was something that popped. Becks has planned this out from years ago....just my thoughts :)

If I were to start on Beckham I would end up probably cursing too much about media, society and waste of times.
he showed rather poor sportsman ship during last years games which makes me wonder why is he such hot stuff...then again the media has been gobbling up tom cruise as well so I'll just leave them to shape soicety into a mindless bunch of floating orbs, that must always shine but never truly illumine

Indeed is a disappointment but who knows he might actually change something in the American "soccer"!
