The Poet

Spitzweg

Million muses fail to inspire
the apathetic soul of doused desires.
Seldom can I dare in ink
the passionate thoughts I used to think.
Mute though I am today,
comfortably a no one;
not venturing much to say.
Will I find it in me
to be a voice one day?

I think you've found you voice. That's a quite evocative poem.

The Spitzweg painting is sunk in lethargy, a light not responded to. There is a lovely laconic flow to your lines--though they are finally hopeful. Sound and image work so well in "apathetic soul of doused desires." A fine line to read or hear drift--like an opiate--in the head! I hope you have not been tempted to Poetbay :)

You will but don't you already have a voice here?:-).It's a lovely poem. Have a safe and happy thanksgiving.

eshu,
That was the very sentiment I wished to convey; a reflection on the current mental makeup of writers/ poets.

As for Poetbay, I don't even dare aspire' to it, however tempted I may be! hehe.

Thank you for your insightful comments that make me rethink my writings.

sanjay,
Happy Thanksgiving to you too.

I can so relate to that poem.
I think that anyone who has ever written a poem can relate.
Personally I can sit down and write a poem.
The poem has to come to me, then I write it down for whoever puts it into my head.

its so true Id.. you know there are times when you just cant write.. maybe you have a million thougts flashing across.. maybe you would startwith some.. a moment later that thought refuses to flow and the muse remains a muse. one cant just sit down and force onself to scribble anything. it doesnt work that way.

Yes, of course you will. In fact, it's been here all along. At least, that's the voice I hear when I visit.

I seriously need to thank you. A - For the lovely book reviews, you know what I can boast among people that at least i know what the story is all about, this time esp. the snowflake theory.
B - The poem was amazing, you captured the whole concept of unsuccessfullness in 10 lines, makes me think, should I continue writing volumes and still make no sense.

lash,
No, it isn't boredom that's holding me back; just the ordinary things of life that need to be done to keep the hearths burning. Thanks anyway.

I am unable to leave a comment on your site for some reason! Have you made any changes to your site recently?

i think the important thing is not whether u can find it in me to be a voice one day, it is realising that u have a voice somewhere within u...it can be quite scary otherwise.
loved the lines...
